A dark place surrounded by a beautiful world

I created this piece last summer. I felt immersed in a dark place surrounded by a beautiful world. The luscious background is a canvas that a young artist friend, Liza Calkins @paintbox_studio, gave me, along with a bunch of others, as she was moving to a smaller studio space. The black rust-o-lium slashes are my physical response to the killing of George Floyd, the inequities permeating our culture and the madness that is the politics in the U.S. Anyway, it is a collaboration of sorts. Thank you Liza! I didn't post it in the galleries thinking it is too bleak.
